Damn. The title should say “Wherein TokyoPlayer **is** forced to grow up”

I’ve delayed this as much as possible, but it is now officially time to Grow Up.

Beta-chan learned how to say her age when she was two. She could hold up two fingers. We taught her how to make an O with her thumb and fingers so she could say that her younger brother was zero. I taught her to hold up four fingers to show Daddy’s age and five for her mother. People thought this was cute.

Now, Beta-chan is three, and is starting to put the world together. We were taking a bubble bath today, and she put some bubbles on her chin, saying that she would be four soon, then she would be the same age as Daddy, and then she can grow a beard like mine. :smack:

OK, so now I’ve got to grow older quickly in order to keep my place in the household.

I’m confused: Why does Beta-chan think that Daddy is four years old? Is TokyoPlayer really that young-looking?

That’s kind of cute. Is your birthday before hers? You can have a big growing-up party where you go from 4 to [whatever your age is] in one go!

_Or_ you can explain to her that you are a four-year-old DADDY (which I know doesn’t really cover your first son, but you gotta work with what you’ve already said!) but that [Your full name] is [whatever your age is]. Maybe that could work?

And get some face paint and paint a beard on that child that looks like yours, and go scare her mommy!

Three-year-olds don’t really have that great of a grasp of what numbers mean. When I’m in the middle of something and she asks, I’ll tell her that she has to wait for two minutes before I can play with her, she will say, “No Daddy, FOUR minutes.”

It’s cute to see a two year old tell people her daddy is four, but now she’s starting to figure numbers out, and it will confuse her, so I’ve got to 'fess up. If she’s disappointed now, wait until she hears the one about Santa.

You just need to tell her that, in Japan, Santa is really [Colonel Sanders](http://www.flickr.com/photos/rumpleteaser/4137712229/) and cooks chicken.

When our youngest was little we taught her that she was two, her sister was four, her brother was ten, Mommy was 36, and Daddy was ‘old’. Said with the proper drawn-out emphasis. Maybe you should try for that? 🙂
