# Where's my computer's recycle bin?

My husband and I share a computer, each of us with our own separate user accounts, so we each have different programs that come up. Recently I was on his side and I noticed that he has a recycle bin. I don’t recall when mine went away, but it’s not there now, and a search of my computer comes up with nothing useful under that term or “trash”. I recently deleted some stuff that I’d like to get back. Normally I would open up the recycle bin and reinstate them, but that’s not going to be possible quite yet. How do I get my recycle bin back?

it’s still there, it’s probably just not showing up on your desktop. Which version of Windows are you using?

ok, right-click on the desktop, select “Personalize,” and on the left side of the window you’ll see a link to “Change desktop icons.” The next window that pops up should let you select which icons show up on the desktop; Recycle Bin will be one of them.
