It says Iā€™m Northern. Lived in Texas since I was 4 but folks are from PA and NJ. I use Texas expressions such as Yā€™all and fixinā€™ta but pronounce a lot of individual words as they do up North not like many down here. ---

Northeastern. Northeastern, which makes sense. Iā€™ve lived in New York City all my life, but Iā€™ve always been told that I donā€™t have a New York (ā€œNoo Yawkā€) accent, so the Northeast region fits me just fine. ---

As per the site: ā€œNorthern You have a Northern accent. That could either be the Chicago/Detroit/Cleveland/Buffalo accent (easily recognizable) or the Western New England accent that news networks go for.ā€ Not bad, considering I was born about 80 miles southwest of Chicago. ---

Neutral. Which is surprising because Iā€™ve never lived in the area where this accent supposedly predominates. Maybe itā€™s a result of having lived in several different areas and my accent has just sort of settled in a neutral middle. ---

Neutral. Which doesnā€™t surprise me, being a 4th (I believe) generation Californianā€¦by the time folks made it here to the edge of the world I think all the accents had pretty much merged into non-existenceā€¦ ---

Western here; Iā€™m from Oregon so this makes sense. It says that Western is basically neutral but not quite. It told me if I want to learn to sound more neutral I should learn to pronounce stock and stalk differently (which is fantastic because I know how stock is supposed to actually be pronounced but I just donā€™t have that vowel sound available to me unless I really really try). ---

There are three questions conspicuously absent from that quiz. How many syllables in ā€œYou allā€? How many syllables in ā€œFourā€? How many syllables in ā€œNineā€? ---

Neutral, but I think itā€™s because I speak with a combo of a Syracuse, NY accent (born, lived there until I was 12) and an Atlanta accent (lived here ever since). It also depends on who Iā€™m talking to because I have a strong tendency to mirror otherā€™s speech patterns. I have an extremely rednecky ā€œcustomer serviceā€ accent, too.
