I LOVED A Seperate Peace. Gene spoke right to my soul. (I know that sounds really trite, but it’s true. I identified with him in an amazing manner.) I bought the book, so I could re-read it.
Other Loves-
Macbeth and Hamlet-Hamlet’s depression at it’s best!
Read snippits of the Inferno, must find it at the library!
The Scarlet Letter-exclude the custom house. You don’t need it. The rest is good stuff, though. Poor Dimmesdale…
Night-disturbing
The rats of NIMH-Wow whee!!!
Hates-
Great Expectations-and it was the abridged version!!! UGH!
The Old Man and the Sea-I don’t care if the end is a Christ Allegory…the rest of the story stinks!!!
Big River-couldn’t read it…i don’t care about burned grass
Moby Dick-The old version movie was okay, I guess, and the line “when it is a cold November in my soul” is good. And the part with Ishmael and Queequag in bed was kinda interesting. I didn’t get too far beyond that…
I’ve seen Richard II (rented it while working on my thesis) and it’s excellent – Derek Jacobi was spectactular. I’ve also seen Henry IV part 1, which was all right, and parts of Hamlet and Othello, which were great. (Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest didn’t impress me much.)
Oh, and since a few people mentioned this – I liked A Separate Peace, but I didn’t have to read it for school. (My brother did, and he hated it. :p)
“Principles of Accounting” by Weygandt, Kieso & Kimmel. Debits on the left, credits on the right, beginning inventory plus purchases minus ending inventory equals cost of goods sold. Man, that’s great literature!
I loved Catcher in the Rye and Catch-22. Also, these weren’t assigned for class, but I really enjoyed Franny and Zooey and The Outsiders.
I hated Stranger in a Strange Land and The Hunt for Red October. In 8th grade, I had to do a book report on the latter. I barely understood it, so I just rented the movie and did my report on that. I still can’t tell you what it’s about; just a couple of submarines, Alec Baldwin, and Sean Connery. I did get a decent grade on the report, though, and the teacher thought I was very intelligent for getting through such a difficult book. <Snicker!>
