Not when they’ve already got Samuel L. Jackson playing Col. Nick Fury (who was always white in the comic books).

I’m pretty sure I still **have** that Assistant Editor’s Month issue! (I tried to snap up **all** the Assistant Editor’s Month issues!)

I voted for Ant-Man just because I haven’t seen him on the big screen yet, ever.

Well, then, there’s your character-establishing prequel for Ant-Ma in A2! If it’s released before A2, that is. In fact, that might be the plan.

In regards to the poll: I’d LOVE to see The Vision. As a child of the 70’s-80’s he was always one of my favorite Avengers.
We all know that Hulk isn’t a team player since he quit early in the initial run of the original comic, and his film persona hasn’t lead me to believe he’d be any better with a team today, so I say we can drop him. Bring on Vision, Giant Man, and Wasp. I’d like to see the abusive Giant Man from “The Ultimates” line of comics, to show that ‘heroes aren’t always so heroic’, and can actually be assholes at times. The scene in the comic where Jan shrinks down and flies under the desk to escape Hank’s abuse, and he commands his ants to attack her ultimately hospitalizing her is classic. Followed by Cap tracking Pym to a dive bar and utilizing his superior skills as a soldier/strategist to break Giant Man’s jaw. Jeez… I drool just thinking of seeing that scene on film. 😛

IIRC, Thanos’ archnemesis was always Adam Warlock – and **he** would need a heaping peck 'o backstory.

But fine, even if we do count him (and Black Widow) as non-American, that’s still two-thirds of a team representing an entire planet that all comes from a single nation.

But, Avengers Initiative is a SHIELD project, and SHIELD is a U.S. Govt. agency. (Isn’t it? Who are this “Council”? Whoever they are, they ain’t the Joint Chiefs.)

> A She-Hulk movie, done properly, would be a silly comedy.

Again, we’re not talking about a She-Hulk movie, but an Avengers movie - the prototype wouldn’t be Byrne’s blatant 4th wall breaking, or even Slott’s heavy leaning on it. The prototypes would be her actual appearances in Avengers, or her other appearances outside of books she’s headlining. There’s humour in all of them, yes, but it’s mostly either in line with the general tone of comics at the time (80s Avengers), or just Jennifer being a smartalec. It would be totally in line with the Iron Man movies, if not any of the other Avengers precursors (still not seen), for Jenn to be commenting on the madness going on around her, even while throwing cars at the bad guys.

Don’t we already have Stark filling that niche, though? OK, he doesn’t have any domestic violence under his belt, but he’s still a grade A jerk. And besides, asking the audience to identify with a wife-beater might be a bit much, anyway.

Oh, I remember that! Black Widow was involved with Daredevil way back in the early 1970s, when I first started collecting comic books.

Not to get off topic but that was my problem with the whole Ultimates line (save for Spiderman). It was essentially-- “What If…ALL heroes were assholes?”

Definitely not, which is why DOD didn’t assist in the making of the film: [http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2012/05/avengers-military/](http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2012/05/avengers-military/)

Not just done, but done to death. It’s got to the point that a superhero who’s genuinely kind and helpful is as much of an inversion of the genre as was _Watchman_ when it first came out. I’d like a return to superheroes being a reflection of our better natures, not our basest desires.

Yeah, I’m not one to shy away from tragedies or moral ambiguity, but I’m tired of the '90s where every hero suddenly had to become The Punisher. Flaws are fine, even some moral ambiguity is okay (and probably necessary, I’m not asking for Mary Sues), it’s just I don’t think everything has to be so damn artsy. Sometimes I just want a story where guys hit each other while trying to close magical portals to the nether (which were probably created by Tachyons… somehow).

That said, I could go for a WELL DONE Spiderman Symbiote-arc movie. That at least allows us to fulfill the need to have an asshole hero without, well, actually having an asshole hero.

ETA: And while Nolan’s Batman isn’t really a bad person, I do like that the Marvel Movies sort of act as a counterpoint to The Dark Knight trilogy in that they’re more lighthearted fun to counteract the angst of Batman.

Well, that’s Spider-Man, most of the time.

But, even in his case, they can’t seem to make a movie without Peter Parker being an asshole or a failure or a crippled neurotic in some way, and, what’s more, that being an essential plot point.

Guys, they’re comic-book characters and plots. “Character development” should really be a secondary consideration. And should not be repeated, on the same character, film after film.

It’s a bit amusing that Batman is a scary growler decked out in black, intimidating folks by doing his best to hide his code against killing – while Captain America is all bright colors and nice-guy politeness, dealing out grim _ **death** _ in his spangly outfit.
