I think you’ll find many wealthy people live well within their means. It’s how they stay wealthy. It’s the pop stars who blow all their money on fancy cars, huge houses, and designer jeans and wonder why they have nothing to show for it fifteen years later.
Is it worth mentioning that “wealth” and “money” are not necessarily the same thing? Someone who blows their money on houses* has not significantly decreased their wealth (assuming they don’t pay more than the house is worth).

Bill Cook, founder of Cook Group (a medical supplies company) lives right in my hometown of Bloomington, IN, in a ridiculously modest house in a totally pedestrian area of town, with the same old station wagon he’s had for like 20 years in his driveway. I’ve heard that he is one of the richest men in America.
