Which do you do more: Take a Penny or Leave a Penny?

Neither…if there are those trays in my local stores they must pass right under my radar.

Leave more.

But, I’ve taken.

If I don’t leave, my pennies usually wind up in the nearest trash can.

I have never left one in my life. Why waste a penny? I have only used them by proxy, some of the cashiers will grab a penny from the tray to round down my total for me.

When I used to go to my corner store frequently, I think it probably all washed out. Now, I’ve changed corners and I’m looking for a new store, so I don’t know.

For baristas, though, if I’m handed four pennies, I’m keeping them all and all of the rest of my change. If it gets rounded off, then I’ll tip. I realize this is petty and small of me, and they probably neither notice or care. But I know I do it.

I always thought those were bizarre. Most of the places that have them are the kind of places who’ll give you two singles back anyway if your bill is $3.03 (maybe they then use the penny tray).

I have left coins before, but never used one. It’s not really out of charity, but more out of the knowledge that I really really don’t need more pennies.

I’m a little surprised to see that this is unique to the US. Surely other countries have denominations that they don’t want to carry around?

I leave them… I generally hate change. I typically give it away.

I leave scads of them - sometimes the odd nickle and dime as well.

I never take any. I leave it up to the cashier to decide whether s/he wants to take a penny out of that little dish or count 99¢ out of the cash drawer to make my change.
