Which fictional technologies do you wish existed?

“Elysium” had the medical beds that seemed perfect. But of course, only the elite could have them.

I want lab grown body organs. Like yesterday.

Hurry, Science…I’m running out of time.

That time machine might help me buy some time.

The Med-bed would be cool. As well.

I’d worry if the Med-beds were programmed to treat “mental illness” like the auto-docs in Larry Niven’s Known Space series. Because it would be up to the machine’s creators and programmers to define what constitutes mental illness. Of course suspecting them of conspiracy would cause a diagnosis of paranoid delusion which the machine would “treat”.

I can pray and in fact- due to the placebo effect, and the caregiver effect- it can even work.

This. What would be scarce in a world with replicators and teleporters? The energy to run them.

Besides that, at my age I’d go to a lot of places if I didn’t have to drive or fly many hours to get there, so teleporters would be second.

“Never forget I am not this silver body, Mahrai. I am not an animal brain, I am not even some attempt to produce an AI through software running on a computer. I am a Culture Mind. We are close to gods, and on the far side."

(Part of) a favorite and relevant quote from Look to Windward. Note that at no point is it considered be be even boasting, much less exaggerating…just stating a fact.

So, they have cow tools?

Tell them the joke and they’ll probably make some just to play into it.
