> I believe teflon only emits toxic fume,s when it is heated with nothing in it…supposedly many people lost their indoor caged birds this way. Remember how miners took birds with them in mining pits, as they would die at the first trace of dangerous emissions?

This warning went around recently:

> The June/July 2012 issue of Backyard Poultry magazine, for instance, details the sad story of a woman who lost an entire flock of 19 chickens from teflon coated light bulbs installed in the coop which off gassed deadly fumes.
>
> The bulbs in question were shatter resistant, GE Rough Service worklight bulbs coated with polytetrafluoroethylene, aka teflon.

I haven’t been able to find any more information and obviously, if Teflon goes to gas at extremely high temperatures, it is POSSIBLE that there was something other than the fumes that killed the birds.

I have 2 of the new ceramic pans from Pampered Chef. They are a little pricey, but I got them at 60% off when I attended parties as a past host. The cleanup is fantastic, which is great because they are not dishwasher safe. All I have to do is wipe them out, but I use a little soap and water just to make sure they are food free when I put them away. I tossed all but one teflon pan, and I only kept that one because of it’s shape. I kept my stainless pans and use them for high heat searing and things that are going in the oven. The ceramic pans I use for eggs, grilled cheese, pancakes, etc.

> So, it seems like my choice is between aluminum and the new ceramic. Does anyone have a link to one of the ceramic pans? I’m guessing I can find them at Kroger or Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

Try any store with an “As Seen on TV” section. Saw some of those ceramic ones at Walgreens recently.
