Recommended book: “They Also Ran” by Irving Stone.

[Here’s an Amazon link.](http://www.amazon.com/They-Also-Ran-Defeated-Presidency/dp/0385074093) Often amusing, definitely informative. The author has his opinions – how could one write a book like this and not? – but he doesn’t seem to have any overt agenda or ideological bias.

They are siblings, but it makes no difference which one you vote for. Either way your planet is doomed. _Doooomed!_

Of course.

Bloody Aaron Burr, always causing trouble. You’re right, of course - glad the other option is there.

Surprised William Jennings Bryan is getting so many votes against McKinley, I’d expect Dopers to despise him - a prohibitionist and staunch opponent to evolution, particularly through the Scopes Trial. Maybe he had some good points over McKinley I’m missing.

Thank you, **Mr. Kobayashi** for the effort to create this poll. Very entertaining. The results should be interesting.

Indeed, most informative. I’m agreeing with most of the choices so far; in particular Frémont sounds like he’d have been a far better choice than Buchanan, even though he was associated with such shocking things as [“womans rights” and “the equality of our colored brethren”](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b9/1856-Republican-party-Fremont-isms-caricature.jpg).
