The mainstream economist Brad DeLong remarked, roughly, that he was certain there were peasants in the global South who would be much better economists than he, but would never get the chance even to go school. This, he noted, was a devastating example of market failure. By his reasoning, there are many, many immigrants who would have been good presidents.
