What’s interesting about this zombie thread is that I would have answered differently when it first came out. In 2010, Subway was still in the midst of its post-2008 collapse in quality and I was still willing to give it a shot. By a couple of years later, not only had price gone up, but quality continued downward. (Note on price: in my area, the Subways opt out of virtually all national campaigns. The “$5 foot long” has been $7.50 here for a very long time.) Jersey Mike’s was my solution after Subway. They’re more expensive than the old Subway, but higher quality. Unfortunately, the Jersey Mike’s nearest me closed a few month ago. The next closest is farther than I’ll drive for a sandwich. We only got Jimmy John’s here in about the last year. Right now, they’re my vote for the best combination of quality, price and location. ---

Isn’t Jimmy John’s evil? I’m pretty sure I read something somewhere on the Internet about Jimmy John’s being evil. So the first time I went to a subway and they didn’t know what a sub was didn’t leave a good impression. I liked Quiznos (and Blimpies) but they never stay in business. The first Blimpie’s I went to was in a gas station with a Baskin Robbins, but the one after that was in college town shopping center within the fast food row. I recently tried Jersey Mikes, Fire House, and Penn Station. They were all good, IMHO. Places that have hot side items get extra points from me, too. ETA: I bought a subway sub from a grocery store recently- doesn’t make much sense I know (I never go to the ones inside Walmart). It was alright. Also, all the grocery stores in my area that don’t contain subways offer fresh made to order subs using at least the quality of Boar’s Head, however good that is. ---

Not that I don’t like others, in fact I can eat at other Sub places but for me Jimmy John’s really takes the cake in terms of the best subs, Subway I have lost favor with, too bland and boring. ---
