I’ve developed a taste for the vibraphone in my jazz, thanks to Sirius/XM’s wide and varied playlist. Can someone please give me some names of some Jazz acts that use a lot of vibes? I’d like to hit amazon and do some DLing. Thanks! ---

I am anything but a vibraphone connoisseur. But I thought that I would mention The New Standards. It’s a band composed of indie-types – the bass player from Semisonic being the most noteworthy, I guess – doing fun, jazzy covers of songs like "London Calling, “Song 2” and “All The Young Dudes.” Might be interesting to give their stuff a look. ---

Gary Burton thirded. For an unusual but beautiful example, see “Mistress of Storms” from the Bruce Cockburn album _The Charity Of Night_. There’s also “Percolations part 1” on Gong’s album _Gazeuse_! with Mireille Bauer on the vibraphone. A good speaker system will have people dumbfounded and transfixed when the piece starts. ---

a favorite woman vibe player in the Boston area, **Natalie Dietrich** from Switzerland; studied drums with Stuart Copeland, vibes with Dave Samuels. Plays nicely on Mike Garvan’s " Havana Nights" CD. ---
