A thread I was participating in when kaput. One can assume it was a footwear started one, but with 30 or so replies, I was curious if that was the case or it was a case of something else. So I took the matter to email, as I thought it was supposed to be done.

> May I ask why the thread in the Pit that dealt with the escaped prisoner/kidney donation/defects/eugenics/argument over eugenics was disappeared? If its hush hush thats fine. I assume a sock was involved but when I went to find out any new developments, the thread had poofed away.

That was the email that was sent, and so far no reply. Did I send it to the wrong person? (a Mod of the Pit, who I do not name to protect there ID)

After every ATMB post regarding disappearing threads/posters I always see “use email” well I did. If it was a sock a simple, reply of “Yep sock, start another thread if you want to continue the discussion” instead of nothing. As I was 99% sure it was a sock, but what if it was something else and I started another thread and I got browbeat for starting another thread when the first one was deleted.

If ever in doubt about a post, hit the “report bad post” button, even if the post is not “bad.”

In most cases the query will go to multiple respondents and someone will see it and get back to you.

I do not know why you did not get an answer; press of business would be my first guess.

You state the case correctly: In nearly every case when something vanishes like that, chances are it was a sock. As was in this circumstance.

If all else fails, send your email to me. [TubaDiva@aol.com](mailto:TubaDiva@aol.com).

I this case they couldn’t use “report bad post” though, as the problem was there was no longer a post they could report.

Click on a post, any old post, and make your statement, we’re sometimes capable of reading an email for content. Sometimes it’s just the vehicle for another issue. That’s fine, if that’s all you can see to do.

Or go to the Forum Leaders page and get the email address (s) from there:

Thanks Tuba, I realized what you meant. And it was appreciated getting back to me so quickly. And for a mug a year I sure as shit do not expect the mods/admins to jump at every email right then. And after looking around the mods area’s I see that particular mod has not been very active recently so one can assume they are busy in that place we call the real world. 🙂

I’ll clear up the mystery and reveal that I was in fact the lazy mod who never got back to you. I have indeed been busy and your email simply got overlooked. Sorry about that. You should have an email from me in your inbox by the time this post hits the thread.

If you don’t see something, it’s not “lazy,” it just means you don’t see something.

I can’t speak for the other mods but I get at least 100 emails a day, many of them about various kinds of Straight Dope business. I try to handle all of them as promptly as I can, but I also work a regular job and have other concerns and there’s never as much time as I would like. I don’t think I’m any more unusual than anyone else who works here. We do what we can as we can – and we hope that people understand that.

What I just wrote was not intended as a slam to Abbie Normal – or anyone else.
