My dad was a talented guitar player and vocalist, but at the time I was too young to appreciate his music. I’d go back to a random evening when his friends were over and nagged him to play for them.
Not from Ed Sullivan, that was in '64. But did you notice the audience clapping ON the beat?
I’ve got three to see, hope you all don’t mind waiting in line…
Any of the Talking Heads concerts filmed for Stop Making Sense
The Roy Orbison concert filmed for A Black and White Night. I’d have to have honorery A-List status to get in the door, hope tickets are included in the package.
I’d love to see the younger me at the Tom Waits concert I attended in a smaller venue in the 70s. I did not know at the time what greatness was on the stage, including Leon Redbone as the opening act
I’d go back to see the premiere of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, with Beethoven himself conducting. He was almost totally deaf by this time and could neither hear the orchestra nor the thunderous applause at the end. He had to be physically turned around so he could see the audience’s appreciation for his music.
December 13, 1895. Berlin. Gustav Mahler conducts the world premiere of his completed Second symphony, the “Resurrection.” I, myself, know how it’s supposed to sound; I would dearly love to know if he did, too!
I just missed being old enough for Woodstock. I know it is probably the most banal of choices, but since Woodstock was an event that so defined my generation, I’d like to experience it.
