I made a [thread about it](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/archive/index.php/t-633124.html) before, but there was a fascinating news story many years ago about a couple returning home from vacation that started getting harrassing and threatening text on the screens of their TVs, and the text would even respond to their voices as if the house had been bugged. The FBI got involved but there was never any suspect and I could find very little information on the case, I called the woman who it happened to and she got upset almost as soon as I asked her about it. I really wish I could find who did it. ---

The family gets a fair bit of stick and snide innuendo directed their way, but there’s never been anything serious implicating them in her disapperance - certainly nothing as dodgy as some of the cases mentioned already in this thread. I guess the massive media coverage makes me wonder about it more. i used to have a book that contained a story on how"John Bennet could have saved his own life" by making four spades, but anyone who bid like he did was bound to come to a bad end. ---

Bruce Ivins, the alleged anthrax killer, committed suicide by overdosing on Tylenol. Perhaps it was a message and he was also responsible for the murders resulting from Tylenol being laced with cyanide back in the early 80’s. ---

The Lindbergh kidnapping. Mostly because of the local interest. I know a few people who have looked into the case extensively. I’m convinced Bruno Hauptmann was involved and guilty. But he certainly wasn’t alone and most likely wasn’t the main actor. ---

It’s possible he tried other ways before he hit on that ruse.
