Your view would work fine in a Brave New World society, where there are the class of People Who Run the World, and a separate class of Mindless Consumers. That second class doesn’t need to know anything.
I’d prefer to teach history to everyone – someday one of those students will put it to use.

If that’s the case, then the whooshing has gotten out of control.
In a hypothetical scenario in which I am forced to design and teach a history class, I would organize the material in reverse chronological order. Instead of starting at some arbitrary date (crossing the land bridge, landing at Plymouth Rock, or whatever) and working forward, I would start with the present and work backwards: The present situation came about because of these factors, the preceding situation arose from these factors, and so forth.
I’ve never understood the Onions fixation on George Clinton, but I appreciate it anyway.
President Truman didn’t drop the bomb, the bombadier of Enola Gay accomplished that task.

At least they knew that ‘we’ dropped the bomb. When I was in HS some of my fellow students were positive that the only country to drop the bomb on another one was the Soviet Union.
We would never do something like that?
