A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Old Rep Birmingham and Othello at the New Rep. The Merchant of Venice at Lord Lichfield’s pile at Shugborough Hall in Staffordshire. Henry V at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford on Avon and As You Like It, in the pit at the Globe in London. Macbeth too, but I can’t recall where forsooth.
Just remembered, Romeo and Juliet. “Wherefore art thou? I forgot thou!”
I’m surprised at how few I’ve seen (though there’s been a couple of *Macbeths *and I helpd a friend rehearse Measure for Measure & got to know it very well.)
Our local college does Shakespeare evenings where students produce different scenes from plays, so I’ve seen bits of many.
I ticked all of the history plays, although I didn’t see them individually. I saw The War of the Roses (Parts 1 & 2) at Sydney Theatre Company, which was an 8hr (12hrs with intervals) adaption of Richard II, Henry VI, Henry V, Henry VI, and Richard III. Cate Blanchett played Richard II and Pamela Rabe Richard III. Both were amazing.
I’m not surprised that Midsummer is ahead. It was the first I saw on stage as a child.
Ooh, I completely forgot that I’d seen Romeo and Juliette by Bell Shakespeare. Perhaps I’d (almost) successfully erased the memory. It was so terribly, terribly bad. I only went because I knew a cast member. I should have known better.
I saw the opera version of Romeo and Juliet on a high school field trip. I guess that counts for half?
I’ve seen Hamlet and King Lear.
I used to perform speeches from Shakespeare at drama festivals, so in addition to the ones I’ve seen I’ve performed bits of Henry IV Part 1, Julius Caesar and The Tempest. I’ve never seen a production I haven’t been a part of - I’m not counting the abridged versions from school.
All of them. Details here:
Vanessa Redgrave almost stepped on my hand when she played Prospero in The Tempest at the Globe on the South Bank (I was on the edge of the stage)
