Hmm…interesting. No, mine is as shown here.
That is, the Children front cover with ‘milestones’ bannered at the top, and Sailor on the back.
What’s yours like?

I’ve just noticed that I missed this. Sgt Pepper was released on June 1st 1967, and Sailor was released in October 1968. Although almost everyone was influenced by Sgt Pepper in some way at that time, I think Steve Miller was too blues based to use very much of what he heard on Sgt Pepper - except, perhaps, on the wonderful Song For Our Ancestors; and that only because of the use of the atmospheric sound effects. Sound effects were, of course, pioneered by the Beatles on Sgt Pepper.
Having been in London in 1967 to record ‘Children…’, I guess he was very aware of Sgt Pepper.
Nine - Well, the album I’m thinking of is a double album set of greatest hits from early Steve Miller Band. I just can’t think of the name of the darn thing, and it’s sitting in the basement of my ex’s house along with all the other 100s of my old records. sigh. This thread has brought up some memories of some music that was important to me, so, thanks.
Is it Anthologyyou’re thinking of?
Earlier in this decade, I converted all my music to mp3. All my albums are sitting in the garage. I haven’t got the heart to dispose of them.
Yes, why that is the one, Nine! and I could have looked it up myself, but thanks. (insomnia may be keeping me awake but I’m obviously not problem solving well). I remember the friend in college recommending it to me and playing it around '72 or so for the first time. Yeah, early Steve Miller, good stuff.
once my daughter graduates high school maybe I can take on album conversion as a project.
It’s 1:00pm here, so it’s easier for me.
I think that converting my music to mp3 is one of the best things I’ve done. Now I have all 11,000 tracks on one device which I can take with me and access at any time. The only thing I miss is the 12" artwork. Having said that, it’s getting easier to get high quality cover scans that nearly fill my monitor.
Ahem. As I was saying, before we were so rudely interrupted:
Not what I was talking about. The album I bought in 1971 was definitely Children of the Future and Sailor in separate covers, but shrinkwrapped together, and with Sailor retitled Living in the USA. The covers showed the band photos from the respective original covers with a wide purple margin.
Here in the UK, we have a magazine called Record Collector, which is more than happy to devote at least five pages on all the different titles and covers that an album can be released under across the world - so nothing would surprise me. All I can say is that I haven’t come across this, and I can’t find it listed anywhere on the internet. You don’t know if it was issued by Capitol or some other label? Was it a US release, or an import? As I’ve said, the only Living In The USA I know is the compilation. Any more information would be helpful.
How dare you.
Here’s a copy on eBay. Note the blurb at the bottom that reads “A Capitol Re-Issue (Formerly entitled ‘Sailor’).” Definitely a US release.
Thank you. Another tiny corner of ignorance fought.
