Try a Pinot Noir from Alsace. It’s a very light red, not quite a rosé.
Last night I served three bottles so the guests could choose:
2011 BV Rutherford Cab Sauv
Sonoma Cutrer white
Coppola’s Sofia rose
All three available at Costco and all three excellent.
Many of them now say “unoaked” on the bottle.
Second Stone: Very nice selection!!
My Pinot was a big hit. Someone brought a 1995 Silver Oak Cab that, while excellent, was just a bit much for the turkey.
Napa or Alexander? Either way, there was a damn good reason that turkey was overshadowed.
Napa. I think they just wanted to show off. It’s a fantastic wine, and I loved sipping it before we ate, but it would have been a waste to drink with turkey. That didn’t stop a few people, though.
Other than 1995 being a bit old for a California cab, that is a fantastic wine. Best I’ve ever served with turkey was 1982 BV Georges in about 1995. Yes, I was trying to show off, I found it for $15 mismarked at Lucky, and boy did it overshadow the turkey. Silver Oak is a very similar wine, and always, always of scintillating quality.
Not bad , pretty inoffensive, no strong flavors. My friend who prefers IPAs that leave a face that you get after putting your tongue across the terminals of a 9v battery thought it a bit flavorless, my wife who prefers lagers said it was fine.
Our family always has a couple of bottles of Mateus Rose (from Portugal) with turkey. I’m not a huge white fan, and love red’s but there is something about Mateuse that goes very well with turkey.
I always bring the Mateus to our family dinners, and the 1 time I forgot to bring the bottle I almost had a mutiny on my hands!
