Oooh! A poutine party! I’m in.

Honour labour favourite… any other words the Americans misspell? Doughnut.

We can buy squeaky cheese here, you know.
We have a shop called The East West Oriental Store where they sell jars of something made by “Lady’s Choice” and it’s called “Cheeezy Spread”. Yes, with an extra “e”. I don’t think I can bear to try it, but I keep threatening!

**Malacandra**
I’ve lived overseas, including Bahrain which is practically a British colony of some sort, and yours is the **first** explanation that has ever made the slightest bit of sense. Mind you, I still wouldn’t claim to actually _understand_ the game, but I have some hope of eventually doing so 😛

**Kotick**
Indeed, crickets are tasty when grilled. My daughter, who is half Thai, eats them whenever we’re in Thailand. I have a dark suspicion that she mostly does it just to watch me flinch. The dead legs sticking out of her mouth and appearing to wiggle and kick when she chews is especially endearing!

**All**
Us expats in Saudi get **ALL** the holidays. I’ve had Canadian Thanksgiving, American Thanksgiving, and am looking forward to the ten-day holiday of Eid in a few weeks. We’re absolute holiday-whores and will cheerfully celebrate **anything** that gets us a day off. 😃 (Note: It’s probably shameful to admit it but the Canadian Thanksgiving was actually the best.) I’ve just gotten home from the American Thanksgiving at the Embassy and there is something fundamentally wrong with a party where several of the “guests” are wandering around with automatic weapons and sawed-off shotguns. 😛

Oh, no you don’t! Soccer is soccer and football is football, we drive on the right side of the road, and we love our guns!

Just because we’re eating turkey doesn’t mean we can’t log in during breaks! I’m watching you!

I was with you up until the gun part.

So sad.

'Merkin here, getting ready to stuff my face with deliciousness, and just wanted to say:

I loved Intermission (assuming we’re talking about that movie where Colin Farrell decks that chick, and that other chick has a moustache but not as bad as Tom Selleck’s?)!

Hilarious. I want to rent it again, or buy it actually, but finding it’s a bitch because it’s a foreign film.

Oh, wait, shouldn’t I be taunting you guys? Um, English toilets are weird, beans are not breakfast food, and what was that disgusting bacon-like substance they served with my full English brekkie? (My apologies to Irish, Aussie, and other foreign dopers, I’ve never visited your countries, so I can’t taunt you properly)

. . . Aussie Rules . . . LaCrosse, . . .
::looking in sheepishly::

I’m American, but can I play?

I love Australian rules football. I don’t know much about the rules, but I don’t care too much about the rules - I like to eye the gorgeous Australian footballers. They tend to be muscular, blond, tan, and hot, and they wear little tank tops and short shorts. Woo-hoo!

I like LaCrosse, too, but it’s hard to find a game on the television here. I love hockey, and LaCrosse is similar enough to hockey to draw me in. The misfortune is that it’s marketed to the 18-34 year old male demographic, which means that the games are soaked in loud rock music. I’m a 51 year old woman, and it puts me off. But the game is exciting and fun! Our local team here in San Jose sucks, unfortunately.

Oh do I have a treat for you!

OK. December 6th is Constitution Day, a National Holiday in Spain.
December 8th is The Immaculate Conception, a National Holiday, only this year since it’s a Saturday the Central Government didn’t set it as such, but still - all Autonomous Governments but one did. So, Holiday.

The however-long-weekend formed by those two days plus the nearest weekend is the “December Bridge.”
December 3rd is St Francis Xavier, aka Day of Navarra, Holiday in Navarra.
So, December 3rd-8th, with the possible addition of one or two weekends, gives us the Foral Bridge.

But ah, the Patron Saint of Pamplona (Navarra’s capital) is St Cernin or Saturnine, whose feast is November 29th…
“Bridge” is too short a picture for this. In Pamplona they get their own Holiday Acqueduct 😛

**Malacandra** , that was an excellent description of cricket, and the first time it’s made a lick of sense to me as well. I think I’d need to sit down and actually watch a few games (matches? contests?) of it before I fully understood, but that helped a lot.

When I was in college at the University of Georgia, I’d walk my dog in a large park near town every weekend. There were a bunch of Indian students at the school, and a group of them would often be out playing cricket. I’d watch for a while, but couldn’t make head or tail of it.
