I’m sorry, guys, but I am having a crappy, crappy day. [ul] [li]Besides my [annoying co-worker](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=26637), and all the work that got dumped on my desk because of her, I am also training someone new, who is a darling woman, but none the less, has 10 billion questions. I am actually unable to do all the work that was dumped on my desk that is annoying woman’s work, because our database is down. So I post here. Wonderful.[/li][li]My friend and supposed travel companion to NYC this weekend backed out. My other friend (the artist previously known as CrabbyRiddles) also has to work. I have a call into my last friend, and if she can’t make it, I’m driving 7 hours down there alone, hoping to GOD I take the right bridge in the dark, and don’t end up in Harlem, as I am wont to do. Plus, I’d have to pay for the gas myself, which will probably be around $80. Arg. Everyone else I know is either working 80 hours a week, or has tendancies to be moody, and therefore a not-fun travel companion.[/li][li]I attempted to stretch my neck, which only suceeded in a LOUD pop (I’m used to normal pops, this one was really loud) and a searing pain in my neck. I am now unable to turn my head left.[/li][li]Thinking honestly about quitting. I hate my job, I hate the 8-5 lifestyle. Until now it just mildly annoyed me, but it’s at the point now, where I wake up in the morning, and consider calling in sick for a good 10 minutes. Every morning. I’m not sick, I just hate it. I miss seeing the sun. But I DO like being able to open the refridgerator and finding food. [/ul][/li] There’s other crap too, but this is getting annoyingly long. Blech. Sorry to whine so much, but I just need to share the misery. ---

Sorry to hear you are having such a bad day. I feel for you big time, really I do. It’s sounds like one of those days that if something can go wrong it will. Is there any way you can just get out of the office for a bit and distance yourself from the situation? Maybe if you are able to do that and get a little sunshine that will help lift your spirit until quiting time. Give the new co-worker you are training some tedious, time consuming job that would keep her busy for a while so she won’t have time to ask questions. I hope your day gets better, look on the bright side, at least your day is almost over! 😃 ---

So due to the searing pain in my neck, I went home early. And I even had comp time, so I didn’t have to take sick time. w00h00. Went home, put ice on my throbbing neck and read. And slept. For some reason, when I am stressed out, sleeping a LOT helps. So I took a nap from 5-7 and fell asleep at 10. Thank you for the song, Mully, it made my day less crappy. Here’s hoping today turns out marginally better! You guys rock! ---

It used to be that I’d occasionally take my lunch and go shop for someone else (buying someone else a present used to do wonders for my self esteem/mood), but now, I can’t even work up the enthusiasm to do _that_. Honestly, when I go to lunch, I’ve think about what I want AND NOTHING SOUNDS GOOD. I mean, when you fantasize about winning the lottery, and you don’t even play, I think you’re about to hit bottom… ☹ ---

SwimmingRiddles, I hear you. I feel like whining so much lately, it seems my only alternative is to say nothing. (Which is why I haven’t said much here at SDMB, other than the SETI thread, or said much to family or friends, for that matter.) Please don’t take that the wrong way. You are obviously well respected here, and I’m sure the people here want to know if you’re in a funk. In my case, no one wants to read posts by a newbie with the enthusiasm of Eeyore… Two months ago, I hated my job as much as you hate yours now. Woke up in the morning and despised my job before I even got there. It’s a terrible feeling. However, I will say that after being unemployed since then, I would strongly recommend securing a new job before you quit or allow your apathy for the job to lead to being fired, as it did to me. (Then again, last time I quit on a whim, I had a better job in two weeks.) In conclusion, I have no idea what to say, other than I know what you are going through and I wish you the best of luck.
