Actually “Paradise By The Dashboard Light” is a great fun song to sing at big parties.  
Whiny? Well yeah the narrator is miserable, however that couple DID NOT break up and he’s stuck with her since he promised that he would love her 'til the end of time.  
Nonetheless you bring up an interesting point so perhaps you may want to start a new thread asking for songs that lament that the couple DID stay together.
