Whiny little Broadway Babies

Ok, maybe I lowballed the negligence settlement.

Yes, I’ve been in that neighborhood, though it’s been some years. I used to lie in DC and I got up to NYC, I dunno, a dozen times or so.

I dunno, I’m just trying to see both sides. I’m thinking that the residents would have said this no matter what the amount was. I think that they just see it as the first bid in the negotiations. The crane company, OTOH, might be saying “FU, the crane HAS to be fixed, it was an act of god that broke it and you can’t be here while we’re fixing it. We’re offering you cash to be nice, we could just tell you to make a claim against your homeowners insurance for any expenses incurred (but they’ll come after us and we’ll end up in court)”.
So, I’m not saying they’ll ‘take it’, I was trying to say the crane company wouldn’t ‘offer’ them the second deal, they would tell them that’s how it is.

But, like I said, I was just trying to see both sides.
Don’t forget, the crane has to be fixed, they can’t just leave it up there dangling and the people can’t be there when it’s getting fixed.

Or, if it didn’t fall, which is the way to bet, bupkes, bubbeleh! The $1500 is a sure thing.

You are being asked to pack up and leave your multi-million dollar co-op apartment for a weekend, initially. There is no a guarantee that the repairs will be completed in that time frame. The crane has held thus far. You are in no immediate danger, especially in a pre-war building.

The owner of the building that holds the responsibility for the crane wants you out asap so the can get the crane fixed and complete their $90 million dollar condos on schedule.

Mr. Dumbass said ok, I’ll take $1,500 and left on Friday afternoon with a weekender bag packed. The crane repair didn’t go as planned. He didn’t have a lawyer cover all his bases. All he got was a fast $1,500. Now he is stuck with the carrying costs on his co-op, legal fees in going after the developer for what out of pocket costs he has, finding a place to stay for the next six months and all the other problems associated with this. Perhaps he also has pets that he has to take care of. With his carrying costs, he needs a guarantor on his new apartment. More issues. It never ends.

Whiny Baby hired a lawyer and got a guarantee. The developer will foot the bill for her and Fluffy to be put up in comparable housing for however long these crane repairs take, plus a per diem for her trouble. She could care less when she gets the news that it will take six months to complete.
