And by lumping every small and large problem together it effectively downplays the important stuff and elevates the trivia. I must admit, i’d never thought of you as someone with whom i was in any major disagreement—at least not at the level where showering was required if we agreed on something. These sorts of unexpected references always intrigue me, so i did a search of our encounters, and the majority of them seemed perfectly amicable; the couple of times where we’ve disagreed have been fairly minor. I’m not worried about this or anything. I’m just rather surprised to know i was on your radar as someone you never agree with, when i don’t have that sense at all. Carry on. ---

[/QUOTE] I really wasn’t sure when i opened the thread initially. I actually refrained from posting for a while because i wasn’t sure if this was some sort of parody, or if he was serious. But post #12 suggested to me that he actually takes this idea of the put-upon white man seriously. If i’m wrong, and it was all tongue-in-cheek, then either i’m a poor judge of irony, or he needs to work on his delivery. ---

I’m honestly surprised anyone didn’t notice it was a straight-up case of sacasm and bitter invective. I thought the “march them off the Grand Canyon” bit was pretty blatant while being sufficently shocking/amusing thought to tip off anybody. Maybe I’m just too blunt for [Jonathon Swift](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Modest_Proposal). While I am vaguely depressed at so much of the actual origin, it feels me with a sort of bland despair of fixing the problem rather than suicidal depression. In truth, there is no doubt real racism and real oppression, but the United States - and the west - and white men in general - probably come close to last in that unhappy competition. The fact that so much invective comes hurled at vague or imaginary oppress-ments caused by the vaguely-defined patriarchy makes me do more of a :rolleyes: than ☹ . But both get real old and start to wear after a while. I don’t like being hated or yelled at or blamed for things I didn’t know about and couldn’t have stopped if I did, if they even happened at all. ---

Oh, yeah? Well, we white folk have it pretty tough ya know. My fourth grader came home the other day and he had homework: he had to share some custom from his heritage in front of the class. Being completely WASP, we came up with nothing. NOTHING. Nichts. Nada. Bupkus. So, I gave him a bologna sandwich on white bread, a Twinkie, and some Tang for visual aids, as well as a credit card application, a copy of the Wall Street Journal and some Charmin. The teacher told him that he had to have some special ethnic custom or something to share–WTH? We ARE the dominant culture. So, I sent him to school with all of this in a Sears bag. As for white men being The Oppressors. Been there, done that. I’ll direct the traffic toward Arizona–they fall into the Grand Canyon, that’s their misfortune. Revenge is sweet…\ ---

But it seems that there’s still, at the core of all of your posts in this thread, a belief that white men are some put-upon underclass, and that those who believe that white men are all inherently evil constitute some sort of powerful majority.
