One of the funniest- if arguably most racist- lines from _30 ROCK_ was when Jack (Alec Baldwin) gave Liz (Tina Fey) advice on interracial dating. Liz was dating a black lawyer (Wayne Brady) who she didn’t really like but wouldn’t break up with for fear he would think she was racist. Jack had just ended an often referred to romance with Condoleezza Rice (who unfortunately never had a cameo) and was telling her that there were inherent racial differences. “Connie is one of the most intelligent and cultured women I’ve ever known, but there are just cultural differences. She used to insist we go to these pretentious French language films that she loved… but she still yelled at the screen. In French.” ---

When I worked at the zoo a few years ago, there was this woman who sometimes shared the ticket booth with me (windows on two sides). One day this large black woman with a passle of kids came to the window with a membership card. She wanted to bring all the kids in. Well according to her membership, she only had one child. Guest got a discount, but they weren’t free. My coworker started to explain this, but then just waved them through. I reminded her (I was a supervisor) that she should’ve explained the rules and charged for the extra kids. She said that she’d elected just to let them in because “I could tell she was about to go all racial on me.” ---

White people haven’t been scared of Black people ever since Eddie Murphy revealed that a lot Black people act tough hoping to scare off their opponent and avoid a fight. Incidentally, [some people](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txtBJhL2pt0&feature=related) didn’t get the memo. ---

I was afraid of black people. Well, actually, it was just a single black person, for where I grew up there were no black people until a new Anglican minister came to town. As far as that one black person goes, I was only afraid of him for a little while, for he was a doctor who was stitching me up. I was afraid of him because of what he was doing to me, not because he was black. I remember him because he is the first black person I had ever seen in person. After he was finished stitching me up, I was no longer afraid of him. I was afraid of white people. Well, actually, it was just a single white person, who was a doctor removing some lumps out of me under a local. Just like the black doctor, I was afraid of him because of what he was doing to me, not because he was white. I remember him because he made the nurse scream when one of my lumps popped out and hit her in the face. After the nurse stopped swearing at him and he stitched me up, I was no longer scared of him. I was afraid of oriental people. Well, actually, it was just a single oriental person, who was a dentist patching up a broken tooth. Just like the black doctor and the white doctor, I was afraid of him because of what he was doing to me, not because he was oriental. I remember him because he was the only dentist in town working on a Saturday. After he was done fixing my tooth, I was no longer scared of him. I guess I fail at being a racist, given that I just can’t stay afraid of all these people of various races who are doing such a good job at keeping me healthy. ---
