I was concerned that jurors couldn’t handle hearing heavy emotional testimony from prior victims, which would make it very hard to make a logical rather than emotion-based sentencing recommendation. (I am not sure I could do that after hearing about other rape or murders, for example.) On the other hand, hearing the experience of someone who actually went through it is a hell of a lot more valuable than my theoretical thoughts on the subject, which is why I was so interested in their opinion. ---

In my experience, “Only Texas does it” is pretty much always a dead giveaway that whatever “it” is, is a terrible idea. ---

On the one hand, I have never been to Texas, so it probably isn’t fair for me to think that, but that definitely “feels” true in just about every case I can think of.
