Well if you’ve ever eaten more than a couple of [these](http://yumfood.net/recipes/categ/whitetrash.html) recipes you might be white trash…(I have by the way) I especialy like the corn dog muffins, thats just classic… ---

I was going to reply to this thread this morning, but Abbie calling me ‘a prince’ took my breath away. Frankly, it still does and I hope I do not say anything (ever) to screw it up. I know I am being overly-sensitive, but I bristle at the use of the term. Even worse is ‘Hillbilly.’ (Although I was a big fan of the newspaper by that name.) I guess everyone is allowed a pet peeve. Taking offense where none is meant is foolish, but I suppose so is causing offense when you do not intend to. I recall Churchill said a gentleman ‘never causes offense unintentionally.’ Another little rule I try to live by. In any case, I am off to the US and Mexico for five weeks. I am leaving in 48 hours. I don’t care for “White Trash” because I do know the background of the term (and I can’t help but feel that bringing the word ‘white’ into it _is_ bringing racism into it). I grew up with a lot of Rednecks and White Trash here in the Deep South. Some of them became really nice great people, and some didn’t, which is not so different from my middle class friends. That said the term White Trash or Redneck don’t really bother me. Then again no one has ever used them on me. ---

Yeah, same here. My family is very solidly middle-class Alabamian/North Floridian and we’ve had many of those dishes. And the deep-fried candy bar craze was imported from _Ireland_. Sounds Southern but isn’t… (not that Southerners don’t often have a lot of Irish in ‘em tho’, I look more Irish than most Irish girls…) ---

I’m actually a native Californian (born in San Diego – you won’t meet many of those!). My mom is also from San Diego (Harbison Canyon actually) and my dad is from Humboldt County in Northern California by way of Oklahoma (his family moved to California just before WWII). I’m married to a native Wisconsinite (for 19 years) and have lived in New England (for 3 years) and Sicily (for 2) as well as Virginia (Norfolk for 6 years and Yorktown for 4). So I don’t have any accent to speak of – I’m a classic blend of this and that. ---

Actually, I thought that another name for Ambrosia was _Waldorf Salad_, so named because of it’s association with the [Waldorf Astoria Hotel](http://www.hilton.com/en/hi/hotels/index.jhtml?ctyhocn=NYCWAHH), which, if anyone is keeping score is certainly NOT trashy. Also, I’ve always preferred the term “cheap trash” - it implies the same thing without any race implications, whatsoever. (Not that a Canadian girl like me knows anything about that, 'cus we don’t have racism in Canada…) ---

Ambrosia is Cool Whip, tiny marshmallows (or large ones cut up), canned pineapple bits, orange bits, and maraschino cherries. And maybe cocoanut? ---
