Why was this done now and why did he wait so long? I personally thought it was good thing to have the birthers wasting so much time on what was essentially a non-issue. ---

“Why does he bother?” is a good question. Anyone paying attention knows this was put to bed long ago. Why draw attention to it? Those who still think BHO was born in Kenya aren’t listening anyway. Regards, Shodan ---

Trump is taking credit for the reveal. From the article on [cnn.com](http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/04/27/white-house-releases-obama-birth-certificate/?hpt=T1&iref=BN1), “Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Trump said, “I have accomplished something nobody else has accomplished.”” I don’t think this will shut the birthers up. ---

If he was really Machivellian, he would’ve waited till the WH was about to have a bad news cycle and then release it, as I imagine silliness regarding his Birth Certificate will now dominate the news for the next 24 hours. Doesn’t seem to be anything particularly damaging in the news though, so I guess thats an opportunity wasted. ---

The actual birthcertificate is in a bound book in some Hawaiian gov’t office, what we’re looking at is a photocopy signed by the State Registrar since Obama still can’t legally remove the original. The boxes on the left hand side are the persons Birth Certificate one page over from Obama’s. The framing is just the paper it was photocopied on. ---

God I can’t wait to see all the cable shows tonight. Chris Matthews in particular I think may just blow up in excitement. Seriously these are the moments people, if you are at all entertained by politics then stop and cherish this. It will be interesting to see how many birthers double down and add more conspiracy theories and how many just give up. ---

What a dumb move, he just gave an out to people like Trump to move on from an issue that would completely sink them in a general election while at the same time allowing him to claim victory. ---

Yeah, I’m pretty disappointed. This won’t have any affect on the birthers, and it sets a bad precedent. If anything, I think he should have waited until after the election. ---

I can’t help thinking he should’ve released the birth certificate the day of the Iowa caucuses or even a few weeks into the GOP primary cycle just to throw the whole thing into chaos. It would’ve been hilarious anyway. This makes several GOP candidates and pretend-candidates (Trump) look stupid, but they were doing that on their own. Stupid as all this is, it might’ve been good for Obama if he’d showed up at a debate and said “I’m proposing solutions for our economic problems and ending our dependency on oil and my opponent is arguing about the fine print on my birth certificate. Who are you going to vote for?” Now they’ll start talking about his college grades instead. The stupidity doesn’t go away.
