Bacchus and Pan the party gods? Hey, are there gods of hangovers and DT’s? Or a god of rehab? As for Odin, what did he do? Decided he wanted wisdom, so he yanked out his eye, then discovered the world would end. He got shafted on that deal. He should have sued. (Is there a god of small claims court?) ---

My favorites are the Norse gods in general, and Odin in particular. After the Greek and Roman gods screwing with us all the time, I like a god who is interested in the welfare of humanity. The dark side of me appreciates the gods of Asgard, a heaven unlike any other imagined by man. The gods knew, from the beginning of time, that in the end they would be killed and the universe destroyed. No amount of power or heroism could change that. But they were always ready for the fight, because dying well was the best thing that one could hope for. Odin plucked out his eye to be able to drink from the Well of Wisdom so that he could be a better ruler/god. He stabbed himself and hung himself from the World Tree for nine days to gain the secret of the Runes, then shared the secret with mankind. ---
