The computer-God from an old sci-fi story who title I can’t remember. All the computers on all the worlds are linked together; then an official ceremoniously pulls the lever activating the linkup. He asks the system it’s first question : “Is there a God ?”. It answers “THERE IS NOW.”. He reaches for the lever - and a bolt of lightning fries him and fuses the lever in place. AC, from _The Last Question_ by Isaac Asimov. The Goddess from Diane Duane’s Middle Kindoms/Tales of the Five series. Tomanak from David Weber’s Bahzell books. Prometheus, if he qualifies as a god. The Egyptian god Bes, as featured in the book _Pyramid Scheme_ ---

I was thinking too narrowly as if this was Bulfinch’s mythology. As long as we are worshipping heroes as our Gods I will add a few recent ones. Babe Ruth & Lou Gehrig. A force of nature and the Icon of American Hard Work. I will also take the Living God Yogi Berra, god of Humor and luck. Thankfully all 3 already have a Cathedral: Yankee Stadium. John Lennon, God of Song Writing and finally I will take Jimi Hendrix: Guitar God. John has a grove: Strawberry Fields in the middle of Central Park and Jimi is worshipped by anyone who picks up the guitar and attempts some musical feedback. Jim ---

I’ve always been partial to Mahasamatman. Especially since he liked to drop the Maha- and -atman and be simply known as Sam, the great-souled god. 😉 ---

well, guess my name is a give-away for one of my faves. but i’m pretty ecumenical, overall. my all-around list of Who To Invoke in Times of Extremis would be: J.C., plus Mom and Dad (for tradition’s sake) Kwan Yin Sekhmet Lachesis Isis Bast the Triple Goddess (in whichever pantheon you choose; and yes, i realize i’m being somewhat redundant) Hecate (see above) … and if i’m still in trouble after all that, well, then i guess i’m just screwed. ---

It’s _Question_ by Fredric Brown, and it’s in several anthologies (including, i think, **The Best of Fredric Brown** ) Like a lot of his best stories, it’s _really_ short – only two pages or so. ---

Go on, take a really wild guess. 😉 The Muses, Mnemosyne, Hecate, Persephone, and Dionysus, Rhiannon (if she counts), the Morrigana, Amaterasu, Gaia, Delirium, Death, Anoia, the _other_ Death, Kaos the milkman, Og, the Invisible Pink Unicorn, Wen the Eternally Surprised, Ma’at, Parvati, Queztalcoatl, Sarasvati, Kali… …I think that’s it. _whew_ ---
