Beyond what muldoonthief said just above, in most states you are under no obligation to buy car liability insurance. You have the option instead to post a bond with the relevant regulator. Which bond has no deity attached.

In my state, while there is a minimum level of car insurance required to be able to register a car, that’s only liability insurance, to cover damage caused to other people or things caused by the car. The state doesn’t require comprehensive/collision insurance to cover damage to the car itself (though if there is a car loan the lender will require that coverage). Many people with fully paid for, older cars will drop the comprehensive/collision coverage to save money. I hadn’t gotten around to doing so before my 14 year old car was squashed by the tree, so my insurance company took care of it. e

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, but my point was that church/state does not apply to private insurance companies. They can call it an act of God/Allah/Cthulhu/FSM/nature or anything else they please, so long as the meaning is clear enough to pass legal muster.
