I get asked frequently if I’m from London, so apparently I sound British-y, but what they’re hearing is a speech impediment due to my hearing loss. I have difficulty pronouncing the letter ‘R’ and tend to drop off the ends of my sentences. When I’m excited I also talk faster and my words slur together. I took speech for 7 years in grade and middle school, which helped me destroy my lisp, but I’ll never be able to enunciate like I should. I just tell people I’m from Massachusetts and they leave it alone! ---

I sound younger than I am\*, mostly because my voice is high, getting toward Minnie Mouse territory. My Buffalo NY accent doesn’t come through as much as it used to (maybe some of the NYC dopers would beg to differ), but it’s still there. For those who aren’t familiar with the accent, it’s nasal and real flat on the "a"s especially. \*The best example of this was when I called my dad’s office a few years ago. I was at work, in my own office. Dad wasn’t in, so I left a message with the guy who answered the phone, along the lines of “please tell him to call his daughter.” The guy said “And how old are you, little girl?” thinking I was going to say 8 or something like that. I’m pretty sure I was older than the guy I was talking to. ---

I’m told (mostly by people on the phone) that I sound like my son. He sounds like Keanu Reeves. So, I sound like Keanu Reeve’s dad. ---

I’ve got a pretty low voice, and I think it’s smooth. I doubt I sound like anybody famous. When I took up singing a few months ago, my teacher told me that I’m a bass-baritone and made a comparison to Michael Buble. Not sure I sound like that when I talk, though. On the plus side, I definitely don’t have the local accent. ---

I sound exactly like my Mom, but that won’t help you guys any. 🙂 I’m Canadian, so I have a little bit of an accent. Not “oot and aboot”, but I’ve noticed that I don’t pronounce those words quite like my boyfriend does (he’s from Maryland). I notice it more when I’ve been in the company of Americans for a few days. And the “eh”. Holy cow, do I ever throw that in often. I also sometimes forget the English word for something and end up saying it in French, much to everyone’s amusement. Two that come up often are “pamplemousse” and “trajet”. Some English-speakers tell me I have a French-Canadian accent, but then, some French Quebecois tell me I have a slight Anglo accent when I’m speaking French. When I hear myself on tape I find I sound girly and a little nasal, but I’ve been told often that I have a nice voice, so I really don’t know what to think anymore. ---

I just asked the SO and he says if he has to pick one person it would be Brett Butler, _sans_ accent, but he says my voice can be more accurately described as a cross between Theresa Russell and Natasha Richardson–again, without accents. I speak pure West Coast news presenter American, but I’m pretty good at mimicking accents and making weird noises. Recently I perfected an imitation of a newborn baby cry that makes every mother in earshot yell at me to stop in perfect unison–this is how I know it’s GOOD! 😉 ---

I’m often told that I sound quite a bit like Tom Brokaw – with the usual follow-up being: “Are you in broadcasting?” Although licenced by the [CT School of Broadcasting](http://www.800tvradio.com/) and having done a number of MC appearances at various events, nope, I am not. Never went past a hobby. ---

Too bad for me, I sound almost exactly like my boyfriend’s former wife. I’ve heard her voice so I know. He doesn’t seem to mind too much, so that’s good. My laugh just sounds like a crow’s cackle according to my friends. Regarding regional accents, I should have a pretty distinctive one because I’m from Baltimore, but my dad had both my sister and me take speech lessons so we would not have the accent. The Baltimore accent is really something. I think the only people who can really truly imitate it are from Baltimore. I remember Danny DeVito and Richard Dreyfuss giving it a good try in _Tin Men,_ but they didn’t even come close! ---

I probably sound just like you, considering I grew up about three or four hours away from you (near Lethbridge, Alberta). I have been told that my voice sounds like Karen from Will & Grace, but I murdered the guy who told me that. ---

I gather that I have a rather mild Australian accent. I’m frequently asked by foreigners whether I was born and grew up here. When I say yes, they seem surprised because “you don’t really have an Australian accent you know”.
