I have no answer for the OP’s question, but chuckle thinking of the National Lampoon [Genius is Pain](http://mlfoley.livejournal.com/1461989.html) which includes the lyric (referring to George):

_I should have beat the &^@%&@ right
out of him,
him with his @_&#@) Hari Krishna\*
For what it is worth, I heard it was not competition with John but the Who.
I find it easy to believe that both internal and external competition helped spur the Beatles, especially Paul, to greater creativity. For instance, it’s fairly well-known that hearing _Pet Sounds_ was one of the things that influenced Paul to do _Sgt. Pepper_. Ah, the Sixties.
Yeah, okay, Ringo was a goofball who couldn’t write a song. Still, 1.5/4 at most.

You mean instead of a tasteful player who barely had an ego at all? Beats me.

A competent drummer in a band of geniuses. But from Anthology, anyhow, he is certainly a nice guy. Though I must admit, after listening to some of the stuff on the Anthology CDs, I think the rest kept him bottled up.
I’d just love to hear the sound with a talent on drums close to George’s on guitar. A Billy Cobham might be too much.
