I lied. I got a MOTORAZR[sup]2[/sup] V9m instead.
Heh.
My roommate got the Sidekick ID phone from Tmobile a couple of weeks ago. She can text, IM, email, play games, etc with a qwerty keyboard and a neat flip screen. She loves it. She also hasn’t done anything else since she got it. She hasn’t been on a date, done laundry, eaten food that requires more effort than ordering through a takeout window, etc. in 2 weeks. We went to a movie on Saturday and she texted people through the movie and checked her voicemail twice. All she does is sit on the stoop downstairs smoking a cigarette and texting people. Hopefully after the novelty of the phone wears off she will come back down to earth but she is missing out on a lot of life because of her phone.
All I need is a phone that lets me make calls, has an alarm/calendar function and is sturdy enough not to break for 2 years. Anything else is a detriment, not a benefit. Besides, what if while waiting in line at the gas station to ask directions you would have met the love of your life or someone who is hiring people with your skills at their company for twice what you are earning now? People closing themselves off with technology isn’t necessarily bad but it is causing some people to miss out on a lot of good stuff too.
