Who has been to the Pinball Hall of Fame?

OK, so, regarding cabs: they don’t drive around for people to hail, but do they queue up in front of hotels? I read a bit of “advice for tourists” that said the best way to get a cab is to walk to a hotel and get one there.

Yes. Every hotel will have cabs waiting out front. We simply don’t allow people to hail them because the Strip would become a clusterfuck within seconds.

Is that true even at 3:45am, when I need to get one to the airport on Tuesday, or should I order one then?

I’ll second this, for what it’s worth.

Hope you enjoy the PHoF. My wife and I make the trek every time we’re in Vegas, which is at least annually. More interactive than most forms of gambling, with nearly the same odds of winning your money back.

24/7/365, but feel free to ask when you check in if that will ease your mind. If you want to try and save a few bucks and KNOW that you’ll have a ride, I recommend Super Shuttle. I’ve used them for shuttle van pickups and for limo service and have had great experiences in many cities with them.

SB, you’ve been so helpful; I can’t thank you enough.

Decided to take shuttle or bus from airport to hotel, and bus back and forth from hotel to PHoF (investigated renting a bike, but it is more expensive than taking a cab everywhere). Will take cabs to Penn & Teller and back to airport, when it is dark, for safety-- I’m kind of a small woman.

You’re very welcome; I hope you enjoy your trip.

I would have recommended against a bicycle. Traffic in this town is brutal for cyclists and the desert isn’t for noobs, not even at that time of the year. Any outdoor activity more strenuous than a 15 minute walk should be accompanied by at least .5L of water; dehydration can ruin your day right quick.

It might well be early September at this point–over Labor Day weekend. A friend will be there then, and suggested I try to be there at the same time.

Snowboarder Bo, perhaps you would be one to ask about this. I’m sure holiday weekends are busy in Las Vegas; but are they so busy that if I try to make reservations tomorrow, I’ll be shut out?

Nah; you’ll be fine. We have over 150,000 rooms here in the valley; plenty for everybody.

Looks like you are correct, Bo. As of now, I have tentative reservations on flights and hotel over Labor Day weekend. All I have to do is drop my credit card on my plans, and they will be confirmed. At any rate, the Pinball Hall of Fame is definitely on my list of things-to-do, when I am in town.

Penn and Teller greet fans and take pictures in the lobby after the show.

Except for one or two days during the Consumer Electronics Show in January, and maybe New Year’s Eve, I don’t think Vegas ever completely “sells out.”

oh just for future ref … the first star wars table was made by Atari its one of a few pinball games they made

Not even for either of those, not anymore. Or at least, neither is guaranteed to sell out the town anymore.

I don’t think my weekend is a big seller. October 14-16 is a Sunday-Tuesday, when there is no holiday, we just have no school because there’s “Fall break.” My son doesn’t have the same fall break, and I still have to pick him up Tuesday at 4pm, so I’m getting back at 1pm, which hopefully give me time to grab a nap, since I will doubtfully get one on the plane. I’m going to pop a Klonapin, or maybe half an Ambien, but doubt I’ll sleep on the red eye. I have audible to read me to sleep, and Big Bang They DVD to put me to sleep, and music as well, but nothing my work, especially if I am next to the grandmother and her granddaughter, Sinaid, who have never flown before.

Never heard of the Pinball HoF before this thread; just coming in to say that the comic soap opera strip Rex Morgan MD refers to it in today’s strip.

Rex Morgan is set in Las Vegas?

I just discovered that the owner has just purchased a lot on the Strip (located just north of the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign) and has plans of building a new location that could be three times the size of the current one there. However, the current location won’t close any time soon, as he needs to actually build a building there; it’s literally an empty lot. (Search for 4915 S Las Vegas Blvd on Google Maps to see what’s there.)

Very cool!

It doesn’t appear so, but some unseen characters seem to be there. Here’s a link:
