They’re based on when you registered your account, although I see there’s a little wonkiness in the system if you go back to the beginning: the earliest join dates are February 18, 1999, but [**Lynn Bodoni**](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/member.php) has the lowest active user number even though her join date is March 9, 1999. ---

Actually, my post per day rate has gone down slightly since becoming a mod. I was keeping it under 10 ppd by sheer force of will three years ago, now it’s down to 9.59 – not exactly low, but the mod-biz posts (the vast majority of them documenting spammers, moving threads, and telling people to knock [whatever] off) have been more than offset by the decline in other posts. As a mod, I’m way less likely to post personal stuff about myself, which gives people a license to bash me in ways they are not allowed to ATMB, or to engage in drive-by snark commenting on the idiocy of others. ---
