Who have you outlived?

Great. I’ve outlived Beethoven and a bunch of freaking Nazis who were executed.

Very reassuring.

I am also about a month older than Jim Jones and Joseph Goebbels were when they died.

Anton Chekov.

Though when I read the title I thought the subject would be was “Who have you outlived… (of my contemporaries)” and my first thought was of Kurt Cobain.

I’ve outlived Pablo Escobar by a week. Which is reassuring.

Looks like Moonlithereal won’t have to wait…

George Gershwin by 3 weeks.

At your exact age, Julius Rosenberg died of execution by electric chair. He was a Communist Party USA member who received the death penalty for conspiracy to commit espionage.

Nicole Brown Simpson was two weeks younger than you when she died of murder by stabbing on June 12, 1994. She was an ex-wife of O.J. Simpson and victim of domestic violence.

I’ve just outlived Sam Kinison, Emma Lazarus and journalist Daniel Pearl. In the next week I’ll have outlived Roberto Clemente and Mary Wollstonecraft.

Lots of folks. Nobody I immediately recognize right around my age–there’s a gap of a couple months between entries that I fall into. But I’ve outlived Lorraine Hansberry by almost exactly a year. And the guy my town and county are named for by a touch over a year and a half. Over the next few months I will catch up to Wiley Post, Guy Fawkes, Mozart, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

If I can live to Monday, I tie Mama Cass.

Well, I never have to worry about being Forever 27, but at 31, I’m 2 months older then Left Eye (TLC) and 2 weeks older then John Dillinger. (who apparently can be played by a 45+ year old Johnny Depp, but I haven’t seen the movie.

I’m reminded of Tom Leherer’s line: “When Mozart was my age, he’d been dead for three years.”

I outlived John Keats about a week ago.

You’ve outlived Sandra Dee by two days. She was an archetypal nice-girl actor who created the role of “Gidget” in 1959. She died of complications of kidney disease on February 20, 2005, when you were 56 years old.

J. Robert Oppenheimer was almost a week younger than you when he died on February 18, 1967. He was a physicist who was considered the father of the atomic bomb. You were 18 years old when he died.

Both my parents, and the years I outlived them felt odd. My mom was in her early forties and my dad in his fifties.

Bob Marley, Lord Byron, and Maximilien Robespierre

I guess I’m past the expiration date for passionate romantics…

At your exact age, Eddie Cochran died in an auto accident. He was a 1950s rockabilly guitarist and singer/songwriter.
never heard of him

Curtis Mayfield
Sonja Henie
Gregory Hines

None of them reached my 57 years, 229 days…

Steve Howe was almost a week younger than you when he died in an auto accident on April 28, 2006. He was a 1980 Rookie-of-the-Year whose pitching career was cut short by cocaine and alcohol . You were 42 years old when he died.

You’ve outlived Stephen A. Douglas by almost two weeks. He was a senator who won the 1858 debates with Lincoln in but lost the 1860 presidential election to him. He died of typhoid fever on June 3, 1861, 103 years before you were born.

A couple literary folks:

Antoine de Saint Exupéry, by almost a week, and Robert Louis Stevenson by two weeks.

I’ve also outlived Pablo Escobar by a whole month.
