Does Academic writing count? I hae an article published in a leading journal in my field, and I am credited in a textbook. Big fricking whoop, though. I mean, no one truly cares except my colleagues, and they’re a boring lot. The real exciting thing is that I actually got _paid_ for an article I sent, on a lark, to **True Confessions** magazine. That one is not on my vita, as you can imagine. ---

I’ve got a bunch of papers in physics journals, an article each in **Scientific American, New Jersey History, Parabola: The Magzine of Myth and Tradition** , an article in each odd-numbered **Teemings** , two on-line ghost stories (at [http://www.saugus.net](http://www.saugus.net) , for 1998 and 2001). I’m basically a ghost-writer, so I’m accustomed to seeing my prose in newspapers and magazines - but under the name of one of a number of fairly prominent public figures in this part of the world. No-one would publish anything by me under my own name, because they’ve never heard of me. And even if they did, I’d only get paid a fraction of the $$$ I get from my clients. So everyone’s happy. _“We are all prostitutes”_ ---

Several articles each in “Carolina Builder” and “Carolina Sun”, one in the “SouthFace Journal”, and a couple of papers in the proceedings of the American Solar Energy Society. I also wrote several factsheets on energy topics. At one point, someone from the state library called my office to check on my biographical information. They were trying to verify if I was the same person as another author by the same name (who had published something about fat thighs or an equally flattering topic.) I told them that although I qualified to be an expert on the topic, I was not the same author. I have also noticed that since my factsheets have been published online, my authorship credit has been removed. Grrrrrrr… ---

At the tender age of twelve years old, I sent a letter to Stephen Douglas, founder of Redheads International. Many years later (13) he published ‘The Redhead Encyclopedia’, in which my letter sits in all its immature glory. Stephen and I became friends a few years later after stumbling across one another online. ---

I’m keeping company with **Cranky** and **D18** in terms of articles in professional journals and I have to agree with them about the big fricking whoop. I have a new one coming out that I am pretty psyched about, though–it is about the ethical relationship between health care professionals and industries, such as the pharmaceutical industry and vendors of medical equiptment, that profit from patients. ---

I’ve got a published guidebook to China under my belt. It’s many years out of print. Been published in a skateboard magazine. For about 5 years I wrote either daily or weekly commentary that went out to hundreds of clients and fund managers on the equity derivative markets in Asia. Also published several pieces in the International Financing Review. Now, I write ad hoc pieces on China for an independant economics research institute that goes to fund managers. First published at age 6 or 7 (I forget) in my town’s local newspaper, detailing a trip to the dentist. As an adult, I’ve had scads of articles in a magazine (_Home Office Computing,_ now defunct), on a website ([etown.com](http://etown.com), also defunct), and have written several press releases for clients I had when I worked in public relations. I submitted some stuff to a popular Internet top-5 list provider, and had a few of my ideas listed. I also seem to remember having a letter to [Gamespy.com](http://Gamespy.com) printed. With the jobless rate as high as it is, the next time my name will be in print is my obituary. ---
