Who here owns a Dyson vacuum cleaner? Do you like it?

How long have you had it? Six months.

Are you as pleased with it now as when you first bought it? Hell yeah. The day I impulse-purchased it, I had just vacuumed the dining room carpet with my other vacuum. When I got home I tried out the Dyson and literally filled the dust receptacle with all the shit that the previous vacuum had failed to pick up in the preceding two years. Also full of really nice design features, such as handy stowage for the nozzles and very clever telescopic arm, and the stair balancing thing is clever.

Would you buy another one? They’re a bit expensive, but I got a huge discount off mine (€350 reduced to €180), so yes definitely, if I could get a discount.

Which model do you have? It’s a yellow pull-along - the one with a single cyclone not the multi (last year’s model of the DC-05 I think).

Anything about it you don’t like? Not so far. I’ve heard a few bad things about reliability, but I’ve had no problems yet.

Is it easy to disassemble? Very very simple.

In my house there are hardwood floors, tiled floors, sanded floorboards, middle-shag carpet, and short-shag. It does all of them equally well, and the car too.

I can’t believe I’m getting excited about a vacuum cleaner. This is part of the genius, I think: James Dyson created a vacuum that average guys would get a kick out of using.

What I really want now is the washing machine. How you doin’?

The guy who cleans my carpets uses a Dyson. He vacuums them even if you just did them because “this thing will make it seem like you’ve never cleaned your floor.” Turned out he was dead right, the apparently clean carpet was full of stuff that the Dyson got up.

Wow! These are some pretty glowing recommendations! I think I’d better start saving my pennes!

How long have you had it?
'Bout 6 months. Had the previous one about 4 years. Probably not the machine’s fault it ceased to work. My (ex-)cleaner blew up a goodly number of the household whitegoods, the dishwasher and vacuum cleaner were just the last of a series. Not a mechanically gifed soul.

Are you as pleased with it now as when you first bought it?
Yup. Over time tried Phillips, Miele, Wet-N-Dry and a couple of other whose names escape me. Nowhere, repeat nowhere, near as good as the Dyson.

Would you buy another one?
Yup, See above!

Which model do you have?
Ummm (goes and looks at website) had the DC03, but now the DC08.

Anything about it you don’t like?
The Colour.

Is it easy to disassemble?
This model is better than the previous one we had. The rubber ring used to fall out and not reseat properly. It didn’t affect the function noticeably, but it was a minor irritation. This model doesn’t have the same problem.

Unsolicited extra plug Number 1
About a year before he totally disabled the machine, the cleaner broke the telescopic wand and part of the plastic barrel. Customer service (in Aus) was fantastic - said that even if the wand was no longer under warranty, it shouldn’t have broken, and replaced it free of charge. They replaced the whole barrel (not just the broken bit) at the same time, for the price of the broken bit.

Our previous house had hardwood floors, this one has crappy carpet. When we bought this place the carpet was here. We’d never had carpet, and all three of us are, to varying degrees, asthmatic. However we thought we’d give carpets a go, but hedged our bets by buying a good vacuum cleaner (ie the Dyson). The hardwood floors at the old place were wet-mopped once a week and swept/vacuumed several times a week extra as needed. The carpets here are vacuumed once a week. All of us have had less asthma since we moved here, even with carpets, and now cats. (Replacing the carpet is on The List [sup]TM[/sup])

See what i mean about a convert?

We have the Animal. We also have four genuine animals, and I have waist length hair that I shed as bad as any animal. The Animal works as advertised. I’ve never had a vacumn that could get up all the various hair that gets shed in the house the way this one does. Highly, highly recomend it.

Question for Animal vs. non-Animal models: It looks like the Animal model just has an extra attachment. Is the power of the regular brush-head any different between these models?

**How long have you had it?**Four+ years
Are you as pleased with it now as when you first bought it? Yup.
Would you buy another one? If this one was nicked say? I think so.
Which model do you have? One of the older uprights, DC03? it’s green.
Anything about it you don’t like? It’s pretty heavy.
Is it easy to disassemble? The bits that are supposed to come apart do easily. if you want to fix a broken one (see below) you need a special tool (star driver?) an ordinary screwdriver of either persuasion won’t do it.

My one started acting up a few weeks back. Not sucking properly and cutting out after five minutes. So I called the helpline (the number is actually printed on the unit) and immediately  got through to a real person   who after I described the symptoms told me exactly what the problem was   :).

Turns out I hadn’t been cleaning the filter :smack: Cleaned said filter and it works like new now.

I have a friend who has killed two somehow (and replaced them with yet another). I intended to fix and sell them but I couldn’t get them apart because I didn’t have the right tool to hand. I don’t know how she’s managed to kill them because they must be pretty hard to burn out, I supposed mine was protecting itself by cutting out because it was overheating.
