# Who, if anyone, was Oscar Bensol (1960s DC animated cartoons)

[His IMDB entry.](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2240718/) Mystery person. I haven’t been able to find any trace of this name outside of the cartoons where this name is credited, so it’s possible that it was either misspelled or a pseudonym.
Side note: As the name “Benjamin” roughly translates to “Son of the right [hand],” Bensol is somewhat close to “Son of the left.”

No; “Sol” in Hebrew means something like “one who was asked for”. It was the name of a Biblical king.

Anyway, I came across a post in which someone speculates that “Oscar Bensol” was a pseudonym for confirmed DC writer Otto Binder. That seems plausible as there’s no indication of the existence of anyone by the credited name, and the last name is rather rare in any case.

That seems very plausible. Binder was still around and active then. He’d written Superman, Batman, and Superboy comics. “Bensol” wote for the Superman, Batman, and Superboy cartoons. He also wrote for the AQuaman cartoons, and AFAIK, Binder didn’t do Aquaman comics, but that’s a detail.
Plus, the initials are the same 00 “O.B.”
