I wanted to come in here and nominate [Anna Bågenholm](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_B%C3%A5genholm), but **Exapno\_Mapcase** kinda beat me to that theme. ---

There are a number of celebrities who are very cool and who use their status for great causes. I won’t bother listing them. Someone I do want to mention by name is the reporter Christiane Amanpour. ---

Isaac Newton was a dick to Robert Hooke. Not cool. The answer is John Oliver. [![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/A8q8PXoJwVk/maxresdefault.jpg "John Oliver - Cool") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8q8PXoJwVk) ---

David Bowie may be dead, but he hasn’t been shot into space, so he’s still the coolest on the planet. ---

I’m going with Jimmy Buffett. Entertainer, sailor, pilot, author, popularizer of the margarita, and general all around bon vivant. ---

> [@stuccosuperstar2020](#): > > Daveed Diggs (Snowpiercer, Hamilton, Cookie Monster commercial)) He also does vocals for an experimental hip-hop/electronic group called clipping. (the period is part of the band’s name, so I haven’t finished the sentence yet). Here is a recent performance, their weird take on NPR’s “Tiny Desk Concerts” (complete with custom-made extra-small desks). [![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/Fn6S9NTpPvk/maxresdefault.jpg "Tiny Desk Meets SXSW: clipping.") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fn6S9NTpPvk) Yes, he is very cool! I was going to suggest Ta-Nahesi Coates, who decided, right as his blogging career was turning into a writing career, to pack up and move to Paris to study French. Not in some fuckin-around way, either — like, hours of study a day, private tutor, struggling through Rousseau, and so on. That’s just cool to me. ---

It’s hard for me to rank anyone above Barack Obama, unless it’s Michelle Obama. Honorable mention to Mick Foley. ---

Tony Iommi, guitarist for and leader of, Black Sabbath. He has a terminally cool stage presence and is now a sort of dignified elder statesman of heavy metal 😄 [Previous page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/who-is-the-absolute-coolest-person-on-the-planet/940371.md?page=1) [Next page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/who-is-the-absolute-coolest-person-on-the-planet/940371.md?page=3)
