Well, more responses than I thought I’d get. It looks like Ken Anderson and Andrew Rock are the best candidates so far. I’m not sure if it’s fair to include Div. III Wisconsin schools, because they are so much more compeititve in that state. The Divisions have less meaning there. But still, going from not having a scholarship to the Olympics is pretty damn good.
I am familiar with London Fletcher; he went to John Carroll, I believe, and we played against each other in college when he was a senior and I a freshman. (Though we both played defense, so technically we were never on the field at the same time.)
NAIA schools do give scholarships, so I’m not sure it’s fair to include them here. I’ve heard NAIA competition is about on par with NCAA Div. II. But having said that, Dennis Rodman and I believe Terrell Owens are both worth mentioning as products of minor athletic programs.
