You know, the one with the deep doom-filled voice. He also does that Powerpuff Girls advertisement where he satirizes himself. I’m sure this has been asked before, but humor me 🙂 ---

I believe his name is Don LaFontane, aka “The Voice” and he is likely rich beyond all belief. ---

Ken Nordine used to do a lot of voice-overs as well. I don’t know what percentage of his career was movie trailers. Then there’s James Earl Jones… Speaking of movie trailers, ever since Jeneane Garofalo pointed out that they all start with “In a world…” or “In a town…” or “In a time…” I giggle at the beginning of each ne, the more ominous and heavy-handed the better. ---

There’s also a guy who basically does a LaFontaine impression, who is getting more and more gigs lately. Jim Cummings, whose voice you have definitely heard before. He’s a cartoon voice-over staple, doing most kids shows that are aired these days. He’s the dude who took over the voices of both Winnie the Pooh and Tigger too. I’m drawing a blank on his more recent stuff, but his older work is pretty familiar. Darkwing Duck, Michelangelo the teenage mutant ninja turtle, no none are really coming to me. Damn. I’m pretty sure that he does the “That’s pretty thick-headed” tagline for Mug rootbeer. That sounds the most like his LaFontaine. ---

I remember seeing an Entertainment Tonight clip on LaFontane a few years ago. He _is_ rich beyond belief, and pampered to match. He gets ferried everywhere in chauffeured limousines, all for a reading out a few sentences. BTW, does anyone know how much Michael Buffer makes? ---

More recently, Jim Cummings has narrated a few _Animaniacs_ cartoons. He has this wonderful grandfatherly voice. ---

Miguel Ferrer, son of Jose, is also making a name as a movie trailer VO artiste. While he doesn’t do the variety of genres LaFontaine does (I once heard him do a bit on ET where he read the ads for a fake movie as a horror film, a comedy, a love story, and an action film), Ferrer does really well with his rather ominous voice. ---

Michael Buffer does indeed make an insane amount of money, and his catchphrase, “Let’s get ready to rumble” is of course trademarked and everything so he can collect royalties on it. ---

These top spots in the voice-over industry sure fall into the “nice work if you can get it” section of the want ads. Paul Frees, who narrated everything in th 60’s as well as did Boris Bananoff, ended up rich as Croesus. Actually, richer, since, unlike Croesus he bought something that couldn’t be invaded by Persian charioteers; his own island! Hey, I want my own island! And here I’ve been wasting my life cultivating my gift at keeping my mouth shut! ---

Is this the same guy that was in that Hollywood video commercial? You know, where someone wants to know something about a movie, so this guy pops up from under the counter and gives them the trailer? Sounds the same. ---

Yep, that’s him. He looks a bit like Paul Sorvino minus the Babe Ruth.
