Thanks for the cites. So the first article claims that in a book a writer/producer stated that Roddenberry floated the idea of four and possibly three breasts at some early stage and was quickly talked out of it as a horribly stupid idea. The others are a bit more second hand but consistent with that version. Quite a far cry from “was supposed to have three breasts”? More like a “I know we are in brainstorming and that there a no bad ideas in brainstorming but Gene, that is a bad idea!” ---

Something tells me that would have backfired spectacularly. And not because of the obvious gratuity. Like, does any guy really want to see a girl with four breasts? Really? Not that there’s anything wrong with that! Hey, I once read a sci Fi story that had a guy with two dicks. Not my thing, but the story was all right. Someone put that out into the world and found an audience. I’ve encountered some weird stuff in science fiction romance. Like spider erotica. Some people want to make it with spiders, I guess. I love spiders, but not in _that_ way. Science fiction fans are nothing if not open-minded. ---

Heh, if the thought of three or four breasts bothers someone, they _definitely_ shouldn’t google “Boobipede”. Which is what it sounds like. Anyway, I note that a three breasted character appeared in _Total Recall,_ and another in one of the Star Trek films. And there’s from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series there’s [“Eccentrica Gallumbits, The Triple-Breasted Whore of Eroticon Six”](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy_characters#Eccentrica_Gallumbits). So to answer the OP it seems clear that part of the audience is “science fiction fans”, at least when it comes to odder configurations. ---
