Even that is no guarantee. . . I’ve had an account with BOA for years, but we recently moved from the east coast to the mid-west and there isn’t a branch with 150 miles. We didn’t move into a rural area either, we’re in the suburbs of a pretty good sized city! Now we’re in the process of switching over to another ‘nationwide’ bank.
A map of BOA branches. I once tried to find the nearest BOA branch: there are none in Ohio, and none in three neighbouring states (IN, KY and WV). That’s not exactly “nationwide”.
I agree with the spirit of the Pit thread the OP wanted to start. There should be no concept of a “business day” in banking in the year 2011. It’s not like Mr. Bevis has to enter the numbers by hand on an accounting ledger and put the books in the safe at the end of the day.
If I buy Slim Jims at 2:30am on Sunday morning with my debit card, that transaction is immediately put against my account. Why can’t a check (which can be verified instantly) be credited to my account immediately?
ETA: Even an “out of state” check? Like the internet and phone lines stop at state borders…
