I always thought what **bristlesage** called scooters were skorts, and that culottes were just…well…culottes. Whatever their name, I’ve disliked them since I first saw them. ---

I have a scooter that I just love. Theoretically, I am opposed to skort-like contraptions, but this item of clothing is awesome. It is a dark blue slightly stretchy denim. I like that it is casual and practical, the sort of thing I can wear on an everyday basis and not end up exposing myself, and yet it looks a little neater and more put together than shorts. Plus. it has back pockets so I can carry my wallet and my lipgloss without lugging around a purse. Since clothing manfucaturers apparently believe the world will end if they put pockets on women’s clothes, you all are just gonna have to be content with my skort. ---

Aren’t they meant for women who work in places where dress codes forbid the wearing of shorts? That’s the only earthly use I can think to put them to… ---

Another vote for “skort = shorts with the panel in front to make them look like a skirt” Culottes are, well, culottes. And another vote for “skorts: I hate 'em.” Wouldn’t wear one; think they look silly. ---

Don’t like 'em. Let’s face reality: For various reasons, a miniskirt is sexier than a pair of shorts. When you first see a “skort,” you think it’s a miniskirt, then you realize it’s fake. So disappointing. ---

No. …but just to be contrary, I disapprove because I think skirts in general are unappealing; I’d much rather see a woman in pants or shorts than a skirt, nevermind some horrific half-and-half chimera. To the best of my knowledge my girlfriend doesn’t even own a skirt, much less (ugh) a dress. And that’s the way I likes it. 🆒 ---

I like the idea, but the reality is, from the front I might look fun and flirty…rom behind, I just look like I have a fat ass. So I don’t own any pairs. Though I don’t know why I care. I avoid looking at my ass in the mirror anyway. ---

Well, I read “skort” as “culottes” to which my reply is UGHHH! EWWW! YUCK! 🙂 I had an awful pair in orangish brown as a middle-schooler, and have hated them ever since. However, _these_ skorts that you speak of, the miniskirt-pretenders, aren’t so bad. I don’t think I’d wear them, though, because they _are_ a fake. If I want to wear a miniskirt, I will, and will take the necessary precautions to avoid making all you male Dopers escstatically happy :), and if I want to wear shorts, I’ll do that. But a skort is kind of deceitful–and let’s face it, I look better in either a skirt or shorts. But I would take this kind of skort over the culotte kind any day.
