In this [article,](https://ca.yahoo.com/news/canada-new-five-dollar-bill-223856999.html) Canadian luminaries are being bandied about as to who’ll be the next face on a Canuck fin. I say Mike D., Eddie Shack or Al Waxman, but that’s just my take. Stephen Harper? Um, _NOT_. Heh - Bruno Gerussi? ---

I’ve always admired Canadian coins with Canadian animals instead of Canadian people. Get rid of the Queen and they’d be perfect. I wish we’d do that with American coinage and currency. It’s never going to turn out that a bison or an elk was a racist or wife beater. ---

I had absolutely no idea who was on the current Canadian 5 dollar bill until I looked it up. Confound everybody and go back to the original Edward the 8th design. ---

It’s time to update the tired Canadian tropes of maple syrup, moose (meese), Stanley Cup winning teams, coffee and donuts, curling, etc. And the $5 bill should reflect this with more inclusive themes. My humble suggestions: - Mike Myers enjoying a meal of Pablum and bannock while getting inventor Frederick Banting to pull his finger. - Drake and the Toronto Raptors eating Hawaiian pizza while snowmobiling in the Okotoks - Sasquatch teaming up with Superman and the Hardy Boys to unmask Old Man Withers, dressed up for a Newfoundland winters’ mummering. ---

Some more ideas based on Canadian ideas from the SDMB - A picture of Canadians burning down the White House - A peace sign with the words underneath saying “Only nation to only fight in self-defense” - A flag that says ONLY NATION WITH NO RACISM, EVER - An arrow pointing downwards that says “Hey at least we aren’t as bad as them” ---

Yes, over the past couple decades, much more increasingly so, I’ll grant. I’m thinking of places off of Tugwell, Anderson and further. And, it has been some time since I’ve been out there. Development, like just about anywhere else, would be inevitable, and to see maybe Port Renfrew evolve, accordingly, would be interesting, especially considering that place seemed to have its own, interesting…vibe. (again - ages since I’ve been out that way) ---

For a very brief time, Canada was considered “cool” by _The Ecomomist_ and its ilk. And while it has many cool features, it’s far too concerned with what other people are thinking. The CanadArm is truly neat but it is surprising it made it to paper - most countries don’t put people on their money _to educate the public_ about worthies who deserve more recognition - they use other media. Fewer still put _things_ on their money, which suggests aloofness. The CanadArm also beat out many other Canadian innovations which have broader appeal. If Canada wants to remain cool, it **must** put “Dogs Playing Poker” (A Friend In Need) on its money. Everyone would love it. It could be updated to give the dogs a resemblance to worthy candidates. ---
