It was already on the 2011 series $5 bill (Laurier on the front). This is the one currently up for redesign for which they are soliciting suggestions, so likely will also have a different picture on the back.

I vote Gabriel Dumont, Métis military leader in 1885 Northwest Rebellion/Resistance. Followed by Helen Armstrong, who was a leader during the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike. Or Ginger Goodwin, shot and killed while avoiding conscription in 1918
