Another way to make money with climate change is to work the fear mongering circuit with half-truths and incomplete science … talk shows, books, interviews … with 300 news channels of 24/7 coverage … there’s money to be had.

While there has been some fear mongering from the advocates of change the general rule is that the fear mongering has come from the climate change deniers with their constant talk about dictatorial world governments and claims that the environmentalists want to sent us all “back to the stone age”. Bad science and fear of change has indeed a monetary reason to exist because doubt is their product.

Case in point, I have seen the possible increase in hurricanes to be used mainly in popular media, but the science points actually to currently see less hurricanes; however, they are likely to be more more intense when they will come. But popular media is doing a number also on hypercanes, studies point to them to be possible, but unlikely. Now that unlikely point is then ignored and popular media then does not help by overstating the danger and then climate change deniers jump to claim that the scientists are the fear mongers. There is money indeed being made out of a falsehood by the preachers of fear but it is mostly from the ones that misunderstand or mislead others in what the scientists are actually reporting.

In the case of the hockey stick graphs the fear mongering directed against science by professional ignorants out there is more clear.

Hockey Stick Scores Another Point in Climate Study: Op-Ed

In 1999, climate scientists Michael Mann, Raymond Bradley and Malcolm Hughes published one of the first studies reconstructing northern hemisphere temperatures over the past 1,000 years. They found that temperatures had been relatively flat, but slightly cooling over the past millennium up until the 20th century, at which point there was a rapid global warming. Their temperature reconstruction graph had the shape of a stick and blade, and “the hockey stick” was born.

Ever since, the hockey stick model has been one of the main targets of climate skeptics. After all, if the current global warming is unprecedented in the past 1,000 years, that would signal the need to do something to reverse it. The scientists involved have been under constant attack, as Mann documented in his book “The Hockey Stick and the Climate Wars.”

However, a string of subsequent studies by a number of scientific groups from around the world have all yielded essentially the same result. Most recently, a paper published in the journal Nature Geoscience this week — co-authored by 78 experts from 60 scientific institutions from around the world — found yet another hockey stick. Their temperature reconstruction shows a slow slide into a future ice age ending abruptly with a sharp rise in temperatures in the 19th and 20th centuries. Recent global surface temperatures are probably the warmest in the past 1,400 years.

Most significantly, the study shows that the global warming over the past century has already erased the long-term cooling from the preceding 2,000 years. The hockey stick is a reality, and the blade will only get sharper with more warming yet to come from continuing human greenhouse gas emissions.

That was 2013 and already the last 2 years broke temperature records, it is very likely that this year will break the record again meaning that the denier opposite point that there has been no warming observed since xx years is going down the toilet again, but the FUD climate change deniers just double down on their ignorance, too bad that a good number of them have positions of power.
